The inaugural Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open was played April 27-30, 2006, at Reunion Resort & Club of Orlando on a composite layout of two of the resort’s golf courses, the Legacy designed by Arnold Palmer and the Independence by Tom Watson. The inaugural Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open was be the only full-field LPGA Tour event in the state of Florida.

Destined to become one of the LPGA Tour’s premier events, the Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open offered $2.5 million in prize money, making it the top LPGA purse of the year in the USA. Featuring CBS Sports coverage of the final two rounds, the Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open was among the elite women’s pro tour events with a major television network broadcast package.
